Well, how did we get here?

Eleven weeks later, and Dana and I still look at each other over the breakfast table and say, "Wow. We made a person." I mean, we knew it was theoretically possible - we knew the mechanics, the science behind it, mankind's hard-wired instinct to replicate itself - but to look at our little Peanut, our perfect little person, and it still seems like she had been brought in by a very kindly if somewhat off-course stork.

One thing in particular has stood out about parenthood: we've both developed the capability to stare at a baby for hours on end, enjoy every minute of it, and feel like we've accomplished something significant. At first Peanut slept - and slept, and slept, and slept. Now she wakes up, gives a mighty heave and thrusts her fists into the air like a triumphant prize fighter. This may or may not be followed by an eruption from her teeny bowels. If she sees one of us, she breaks into a wide grin and greets us the only way she knows how - "ooooh, gheee." And we keep up the conversation: "Oooooh! Aaahhh! Geeee!" So I ask you, who's having more fun?

It has been an adventure beyond compare, getting to know this wonderful little girl. Our lives have been turned upside down, no doubt about it. But even one of those precious looks makes all the diaper changes, the spit-up epaulets on our shoulders, the lack of sleep, all worthwhile.

How to celebrate? Start a blog! We've joined the Age of Technology and figured out LinkedIn, Facebook, all that stuff. Just wouldn't seem right without a blog where Daddy could wax poetic after a couple of beers. A little window into our daily lives in The Heart of Suburbia, reflections upon our fantastic voyage of parenthood, and such other nonsense as we decide to sprinkle in here and there. Come along for the ride, we hope you'll enjoy it.
